Move over Pantone … I’m choosing the color of the year … AGAIN

This morning, I sat sipping my morning cup of coffee scrolling social media when I saw it … Pantone had released their 2025 color of the year.  I peered over my steaming cup as the ‘color of the year’ began to fill my phone screen. I was midway through a generous sip of coffee when I just about choked.

I drew the cup away from my face and peered into my cup and thought, “Good grief, this coffee is a nicer color than that!”  Mocha Mousse?  The name may be sound yummy, but brown, ugh!

This year’s (2024) Pantone color, Peach Fuzz, I was less than pleased with!  In 2021 I was also far from thrilled with their choice.  This is serious business; what are they thinking?

Pantone’s color of the year is chosen by the Pantone Color Institute and is influenced by all aspects of society: social media, fashion, marketing and that awkward subject, politics.

There is no denying that 2024 has been a heck of a year.  So why would Pantone choose a warm brown as their 2025 color? Well, the psychology of warm brown is that it can evoke feelings of safety and stability.  Alright Pantone, I’ll give you that. There are many people today that need that.

But … the color is still meh … So here we go again! I’m weighing in with my own color of the year.

Welcome to LDD’s 2025 Color of the Year

LDD's Color of the Year 2025 Shades of Spring

Reflecting on the past year, I agree we need a color that will stir feelings of safety and stability. Yet I’d like to see it bring more than that. Why not a color that can also feel rejuvenating and impart a sense of growth, even vitality.

Shades of spring is cheerful and stimulating. It possesses a yellow undertone; yellow emotions include hope and confidence.  I think we all can agree a good dose of that right now would help us all.

Most importantly, the color is happy.

Variations on the color are found in some of our favorite desserts (I haven’t met a cheesecake that doesn’t make me happy!).

If the color doesn’t sit well with you, try using it in small shots here and there for a little lively punch and excitement in a space!

It also pairs nicely with neutrals.

Or make a bold statement…

As we usher out 2024 and ring in 2025, I hope you all find your own way to color yourselves happy.  You can bet I will.

Cheers!
